Mon Ami Evin
Last night I had the loveliest evening with Evin—one of the first friends I made in college. Our friendship has been on quite the journey and I am so happy to have such an open-hearted, kind, funny, radiant, straight-shooter friend who always keeps a good head on her shoulders (oh and also has the most magical, genuine LAUGH). My co-founder of Spunky Sundays—Ev and I have been through it all...

Today I’ve been working on a project for a Jewish organization/client and want to use a few Yiddish expressions in some of the copy. After a bit of research, I’m feeling overwhelmed by the list of awesome seldom used Yiddish phrases. Here are my favorites in no particular order. Farkakte - an adjective, meaning ‘screwed up’ or ‘a bad idea’; literally, ‘crapped’...

A Valid Concern.
Brad: you should buy this http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/ctd/1527836863.html
Me: awwwwwwwwww! so cute!
Brad: just throw it on a credit card and never pay it
Brad: bam! free car.
Me: ha. thanks...
Brad: i was looking at cars for you since The Pearl* is showing lots of age.
Me: yeah, The Pearl is dying. I think I might have to lease a car. There's no way I can buy one...even a used one
Brad: how is financing a used one different from leasing one?
me: I mean, how much will it be a month? I am literally barely making it as is.
Brad: Depends. If it's cheap enough you could finance it through me interest free. I'll just buy it and you cut me a check each month.
Me: ugh what if we break up and you take me on Judge Judy?
Will this blog entry count as evidence in court if this actually happens someday?

Professor Loverboy, I mean LAYTON...
Is it weird that this past weekend I’ve developed a crush on Professor Layton? For those of you unaware, Professor Layton is a cartoon character featured in this video game I’ve become obsessed with on DS. I think I’ve hit a new all-time low. Even for me.

Social. Science.
These last few weeks have been a logistical nightmare for making plans. Since so many friends are in town for the holidays, it’s been quite the problem-solving puzzle trying to coordinate plans and see EVERYONE (especially since I am working almost all of this week). Here are some awesome people I’ve already gotten to see + some others I’m planning on seeing soon: My family...

Best. Hanukkah. Ever.
Not to gloat, but I pretty much got the best gifts ever this year. Here are a few of the things I got from my family, friends and Brad. Gosh, do they know me or what? I loved EVERYTHING! So super, duper, crazy lucky. Harajuku Lovers perfume (I am obsessed with these girls! Forget the perfume. I LOVE the packaging…hmmm…I wonder where she’ll live in my apartment…) ...

An Open Letter to Starbucksaholics
Dear Starbucksaholics, Look—I get it. You need Starbucks. No, really. You NEED Starbucks. The way a crack baby needs crack, you need caffeine. Your hands need to cradle that solid 10% post-consumer recycled fiber-made disposable cup. You need the warm goodness of macchiato Americano cappuccino lattes to jumpstart those neurons and kick your brain’s ass. You need some kind of crumbly coffee cake...

Friday, Where Are You?
Today feels like a Friday. I hate impostor Thursday’s like this. It’s such a psyche-out and really upsets my psyche.

Looking Nice.
“Elyse, You look nice today!” “Where are you going Miss Fancypants?” “Elyse, do you have a client meeting today?” “ELYSE! YOU LOOK SO DRESSED UP!” These are a handful of comments I’ve already received at work today. Why? Because I’m wearing a skirt and high heels. Why? Because: a)     I was bored with jeans. b)    I love this skirt and wearing it makes me happy. c)     Maybe I felt like...

Snail Mail FAIL
How come we only send and receive happy, personalized mail in the month of December? Holiday cards and good wishes make me so happy and I just wish I could ration them throughout the entire year instead of having a card-receiving drought January-November and overload during Christmastime. Just a thought. Who’s with me?
