Happy Valentine’s Day, peeps! I’m wearing a festive glittery red heart clip in my hair and a big smile on my face, despite a hiccupy morning filled with car problems (Oh, Black Pearl, why does Brad love you so, so much?) I’m having a good week though. I discovered the new Kate Spade Pandora station (don’t ask me what Kate Spade has to do with music, because I don’t much get it either) as well as a sugar-free french vanilla coffee creamer that has been my buddy this morning, keeping me HYPER happy and caffeinated.
Above is the valentine I gave Brad this year :) We usually keep things pretty low-key on Valentine’s Day. After all, we’re big endorsers of the “Be kind, thoughtful and romantic to your partner every day, rather than on just Hallmark sponsored days” school of thought. But ya know! It’s still Valentine’s Day—no need for us to be grinches about it.
We actually had a very lovely evening out last night. We ate an early dinner at Restaurant Alma—a fancy Minneapolis place we’ve been DYING to try for the last year. They do an awesome 3-course dinner for $48 where you pick each course. It was divine!
My dinner consisted of:
Curried lentils & cauliflower with crispy rock shrimp & spiced yogurt
Farro & porcini risotto with prosciutto, tomato broth, parmesan & rosemary
Gently cooked char with potato puree, truffle hollandaise & red wine jus
Brad’s dinner consisted of:
Soft cooked egg with grilled bread, marinated kale & white bean puree
Masa corn & bean cake with snow crab, green chili, garlic & lemon
Pan seared beef sirloin with chimichurri, spinach & bone marrow custard
We both agreed that the entrees were the highlights (my char was INSANE IN THE MEMBRANE good), as well as Brad’s soft cooked egg. It was all DIVINE. That and a bottle of wine and some rich conversations…I was in heaven.
Afterwards, we saw Mike Birbiglia (one of our favorite comedians) perform stand-up at the Guthrie. I had bought tickets as part of Brad’s birthday present (ya know, besides the 29 craft beers) and he was hilarious, endearing and self-deprecating. My favorite kind of comedian. I just LOVE stand-up. My cheeks and stomach always hurt from excessive laughter.
And tonight I am hanging out with my friend Maria!
So you’ll forgive me for being a bit overly-happy (annoyingly so). Hope all of you have a lovely, not-too-shabby Valentine’s Day, too :)
