I love the balance of the feminine outfits and shapes paired with the masculine tools in this series of paintings by Kelly Reemsten. Plus her heavy textured style and bold shadows are just my taste. Love these bad boys.

This trailer for the upcoming documentary Sign Painters looks interesting AND fantastic. Maybe I am totally biased, but who hasn’t wanted to take a glimpse into this world?

It’s coming to Minneapolis in June and I just know Diana Quenomoen will want to go with me! It’s coming to some other smaller cities as well, so don’t fret. Check out the dates and locations heresies.

I love these ridiculously photoshopped classic paintings (now with more celebrities!) from Worth1000. It’s amazing how old timey and shockingly non-out-of-place some of these stars look. Check out all 25 here.

South African artist Katrin Coetzer is showing her latest exhibit called “Honeymoon” at Salon91 in Cape Town. And wow. Her work is just beautiful. Airy, yet textured. Grounded, yet fantastical. I’m loving all these pieces (especially “Lion Around.”) See all the pieces of the exhibition here.

Gosh, I just really love Pinterest. Sure I get to find great products and fun design ideas, but mostly I love discovering new illustrators and artsits who think differently. These illustrations are by Australian-based artist Sandra Eterovic. I saw the top image “Kitty and Darth Vader” floating around on Pinterest, and when I clicked the image and read that the work is supposed to be about “how we choose to present ourselves, what we reveal/conceal and some basic undeniable truths beneath.” Simply beautiful. Here’s a link to her Etsy shop.

Amazing “blendscapes” by Spanish artist Oriol Angrill Jorda who uses colored pencils and watercolors to create these ethereal, dreamy, stylish pieces. Can you believe there is NO photography involved? I think they just look so details! I can’t fathom making that with just colored pencils and watercolors. It’s amazing!

This street sign art series by Jay Shell is pretty rad. He’s posted famous rap quotes around neighborhoods, in a style emanating official street signs. Oh, and here’s a video showing how he made this project come to life.

Do the floor layouts above look familiar to you? If you love television, they should ring a bell. The top two belong to Chandler/Joey and Monica/Rachel from Friends. The bottom one belongs to the fabulous Miss Carrie Bradshaw. I’m impressed by both the idea to create these floor plans of iconic TV characters as well as the thoroughness of the work. It’s all done by the genius Spanish artist Inaki Aliste Lizarralde. Check out her site for more (like Jerry Seinfeld’s apartment, The Simpsons’ house, Dexter’s apartment and more!) So cool.

The project called Toy Stories by Italian photographer Gabriele Galimberti is eye-opening, chilling and reassuring all at once. Shot over the course of 18 months, Galimberti took photos of children from around the world with their most loved toys. It’s beautiful how the act of playing is really what’s most important to children across the world and across cultures.

From top left to bottom right, here are the names and locations of the children above:

  1. Cun Zi Yi - Chongqing, China
  2. Stella - Montecchio, Italy
  3. Pavel - Kiev, Ukraine
  4. Chiwa - Mchinji, Malawi
  5. Orly - Brownsville, Texas
  6. Watcharapom - Bangkok, Thailand
  7. Shaira - Mumbai, India
  8. Norden - Massa, Morocco

Sometimes all I need to keep on going is a bit of affirmation. And hanging this sucker in my workspace would totally make me feel good about all the hard work I’m doing. Don’t you think? I’m just loving real hard on this print by California-based illustrator Emily McDowell.

Lauren Kaelin has some pretty badass oil paintings of famous Internet memes. Of course I’m partial to the Jessica Affirmation one, based off of this video that’s still one of my all-time favorite videos ever.

Pop Elyse Quiz: What are my two favorite things? 1) Anything French, 2) Adorable, whimsical, inspired art. Needless to say, these little paintings of french businesses by Johnny Bull are right up my alley. Apparently he was living in France when he made these pieces, which makes sense because France is a magical place where beautiful things just appear around you and inside of you.
