Magpie comes a calling
Drops a marble from the sky
Tin roof sounds alarm
And wake up child
Let this be a warning says the magpie to the morning
Don’t let this fading summer pass you by…

This street sign art series by Jay Shell is pretty rad. He’s posted famous rap quotes around neighborhoods, in a style emanating official street signs. Oh, and here’s a video showing how he made this project come to life.

With a high of 30 degrees today, it’s starting to feel like spring will never come. This strong, severe desire to retire my down winter coat for the season has inspired a peppy little playlist that I like to call “Jesus Christ, Is It Spring Yet?”
You can listen to the whole playlist heresies. Enjoy and think warm thoughts with me!

I love this tribute to Jonny Cash by Boston-based designer Chad Gowey. Prints of “Cash Only” are actually available on Society 6.

Oh. Hell. Yes. Nellie McKay is going to be playing the Dakota Jazz Club downtown this Monday and Tuesday. Grabbing my tickets now. Words cannot express how deeply and sincerely I LOVE this woman. She’s crazy and beautiful and so very smart, and SO very liberal. She’s just a mess in a ballgown who plays the piano. A complete individual. An authentic artist. Hilarious and sharp and funny and neurotic and blonde. I love every single thing about her. Can’t wait to watch the crazy unfold. Here’s a link to one of my favorite songs of hers called “Sari” off my favorite album “Get Away from Me.” Amazing.

I sit by and watch the river flow. I sit by and watch the traffic go. Imagine something of your very own, something you can have and hold. I’d build a road in gold, just to have some dreaming; dreaming is free.

And as long as she’s got noise, she’s fine. But I could teach her how I learned to dance when the music’s ended.

Got a kick out of this modern mix tape by See Jane Work; which is really just a casette tape-shaped USB holder. Pretty darn funny.

And it’s hard to dance with the devil on your back, so shake him off. I am done with my graceless heart, so tonight I’m gonna cut it out and then restart. Cuz I like to keep my issues drawn, it’s always darkest before the dawn.
